Nintendo revealed today the official name of their new console, the Nintendo Switch.
The Switch fulfills many of the leaked details that we’ve heard and theorized in the last six months. The system can be played on its own as a standalone Wii U-pad-style device, as a television-connected console via the Nintendo Switch Dock, or via its own separate screen with a wireless controller.
The Nintendo Switch is the portable and home console we heard about
The video explicitly showed off a discrete pro controller, the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, as well as more handheld-style controllers called the Joy-Con and the Joy-Con Grip. Physical games for the system will be on cartridges rather than discs. There’s no official word yet on things like battery life, screen resolution, or the internal specs powering the system.
There’s no official word yet on price or an exact release date, but we can expect the system in March 2017.
